Iranian President Raisi Missing After Helicopter Crash In Bad Weather

The Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign ministers was crossing a mountain in heavy fog on the way back from a visit to Azerbaijan.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi met a hard landing on Sunday, May 19. As per Reuters, the rescue teams were immediately in action. As per the agency’s report, there has not been any official confirmation yet. President Raisi was traveling with Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of East Azerbaijan province, and other officials, reported the Associated Press Citing IRNA (Islamic Republic News Agency). Raisi was traveling in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, when the incident occurred near Jolfa, located 600 kilometers northwest of Tehran, reported Associated Press.

The Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign ministers was crossing a mountain in heavy fog on the way back from a visit to Azerbaijan. The bad weather was making difficult the rescue operation. The official said the lives of Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian were “at risk following the helicopter crash”. The official added, “We are still hopeful but information coming from the crash site is very concerning.”

The chief of Staff of Iran Army ordered all resources and elite Revolutionary guard to put in action for , the rescue and search operation. Raisi is still missing.

“It is dark and it has started raining, but the search continuous. Rescue has reached the area… however, the rain has created mud, making the search difficult,” a local reporter told state TV.
