World Environment Day 2024: ‘Our Land, Our Future’

World Environment Day on June 5. Climate change is charging us now. It is a high time for the World to meet and find probable solution.

World Environment Day is recognized every year on June 5. This occasion is a reminder of our responsibilities to preserve our ecosystem. The United Nations General Assembly had established this day in the year 1972.

Theme of World Environment Day 2024 is “Our Land, Our future”- Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience becomes the theme this year. Different countries across the World. Celebrating World Environment Day is crucial for our globe. In this day many organisation hold discussions on issues like climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss and pollution. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)  restoring land would uplift our livelihood.

Saudi Arabia is taking strong initiatives like Saudi Green and Middle East Green. The United Nations warns that approximately 40% of the plant is degraded which will directly affect half of the population. By taking small actions by everyday we will share our responsibility to preserve our future.

Time will not wait, we need to take urgent action. Plastic is the biggest threat to the ecosystem.

Some of the facts that would force you think: every 5 seconds, a football pitch of soil gets eroded and it takes 1000 years to form 1inch of top soil, beef is responsible for 41% of deforestation, chocolates and biscuits are major contribution to deforestation. Deforestation has turned Amazon Rainforest into a carbon source.

Recycling waste, turning off the power when not in use, taking short duration in showers while bathing, planting trees would add up a big change.
