Before spotting the cause of decreasing underground water level, we have to know the importance of underground water and why it should be protected as a precious gem.
Understanding and Utilization of Underground Water:
Only 3 % of fresh water is available all over the world, a few amount of water exist as underground water which is the most demanded water for use (basically for drinking purpose). Besides this, some other natural sources of fresh water are lakes, rivers, ponds, springs etc. As a result, continuously underground water is being fetched and pumped. Thus, the water level is going down day by day and it seems to be a very rapid action. As in every stage, we need sweet and fresh water, we cannot forget about the resources of it and we have to maintain and protect this. It, day by day, displaying itself as the most precious and valuable requirement.
Prose of Ponds:
We are facing an event now a days, like covering up the ponds and water bodies from our area’s map for constructing buildings. During this process, we are completely forget the importance of environmental hierarchies. While it rains, the running water from surroundings fall into the ponds and for long time, the bottom surface of the ponds supplies spontaneous flow of water to refill or enrich the underground water level. So, it is very clear to us that destroying the ponds are affecting the underground water level. More ponds can increase the level of underground water.
Lack of Lands:
Day by day, we have been covering they lands with concrete and pitch to ensure our selfish requirements. Such as- to cover a land with concrete to make it a huge parking lot; to cover a land with tiles to decorate it as a hangout place or etc. With these comforts and satisfaction, we again missed the resources of the beverage which we are holding to satisfy our thirst. How?? let’s explain. When it rains or overflows, a naked land or earth has its pours to grab the water inside it. The rainwater directly grabbed by the soil and reaching to the bottom, this water refills the underground water level and recharge our most wanted resource. So lacking of lands can forward the world towards the decreasing level of underground water.
Termination of Trees:
Now this is time to discuss about the most discussed topic now a days. We are growing but we are childish enough to understand that trees bring clouds, clouds bring rain and rain is the top source and match-maker of producing underground and fresh water. How rapidly we are finishing the forests, it directing us to ultimate drought. Let’s see the show… A tree releases water particles who jointly make clouds. Then it rains and rainwater falls into the earth, enters into the underground water level and refills it. So continuously cutting down of trees and forests is one of the effective causes for growing down of underground water level.
Every point is co-related with each other. So, we have to concern about our nature, trees and natural gifts. We should protect them by any cost. If not, we will only be discussing regarding this and while we shall be tired and thirsty, no more drop of water will exist to satisfy our thirst.
