The grandfather of the 17-year-old who slammed into two 24-year-old techies while driving intoxicated late at night in a Porsche reportedly threatened the family driver to “take the blame” for the accident and ordered him not to speak about it with anybody.
Earlier today, Pune police detained and charged the juvenile’s grandpa and father, Vishal Agarwal, with kidnapping and improper imprisonment of the driver. Vishal Agarwal had also been ordered to judicial custody until June 7.
“He first called me up and shouted at me over the phone. Then, he forcibly took me to their bungalow in their BMW car,” the driver has said
When the kid arrived at the bungalow, his father and grandfather confiscated the driver’s phone and imprisoned him.
“I was told to take the blame. He told me, ‘If you talk to anyone about this, remember…’,” the driver said.
Addressing a press conference, Pune CP Amitesh Kumar stated that the police did not think the driver was initially brought to the police station from the scene. “When the driver was first brought to the Police Station from the spot, the first statement which he gave in writing was that he was driving the car, But the Police Station at that point of time disbelieved the statement of the driver and after a preliminary inquiry, they registered an offence against the juvenile accused because it was evident prima facie that the juvenile accused was driving the vehicle…” CP Amitesh Kumar said.
The Yearwada police have filed a separate charge against the teen’s grandfather and father in response to a complaint from the family driver. The two were charged under IPC sections 365 (kidnapping with intent covertly and illegally to confine a person) and 368 (wrongfully concealing or maintaining in custody).
