Twin Terror Attacks In J&K: BJP Leader Killed, Jaipur Couple Injured

On May 18 Saturday evening a former BJP Sarpanch was killed and a couple from Jaipur got injured in the Twin terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian and Anantnag districts.

A search operation has been launched to find out the terrorists in the areas of Anantnag and Shopian. The terrorist opened fire targeting the former BJP Sarpanch Aijaz Sheikh in Hirpora in Shopian at around 10:30 pm. And the next fire was opened at a tourist camp in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir where a couple from Jaipur was injured and later taken to the hospital. The couple was identified as Farha and her husband Tabrez. The Kashmir zone police tweeted that the injured were evacuated to the hospital for treatment and the area was cordoned off”.

The notable thing is that the attacks are all back-to-back at a time when there are election polls in the Anantnag Rajouri sector. Voting in Baramulla on May 20 in Phase 5 of the Lok Sabha election. The National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah condemned the terror attack along with the president of PDP Mehbooba Mufti condemned the attack.

Mehbooba Mufti says on X, “while we condemn the attack in Pahalgam today that result in injuries to two terrorist followed by another attack on a former Sarpanch in Hira shop in the timing of these attacks given that the South election was delayed without any reason is a cause of concern especially keeping in mind normalcy claims touted by government of India”.

A statement from the party says, that the acts of brutality are a serious barrier to achieving the piece in Jammu and Kashmir in the long term they have urged the communities to come together to face the challenging times and show efforts to bring peace to the union territory. Their thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during the difficult period.
