Russia accused The US of meddling in India’s domestic affairs and the ongoing elections by stating that, The US has not yet provided any substantial and reliable evidence of the involvement of any Indian citizen in the murder of a Khalistani terrorist.
Last year, in November US prosecutors charged Indian national Nikhil Gupta in the murder case of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Pannun, wanted in India on terror charges holds dual citizenship of Canada and the US. The Home Ministry of India marked him as a terrorist under the Anti-Terror Law Prevention Act.
When asked to respond to a report by Washington, Maria Zakharova – Russian foreign ministry spokesperson said. “According to the information we have Washington has not yet provided any reliable evidence of the involvement of Indian citizens in the murder of GS Pannun. Speculation on this topic in the absence of evidence is unacceptable.” “Washington lacks understanding of India’s culture and history and always makes ‘unfounded accusations’ about unity and religious freedom in India,” she said. Unfounded accusations by the US against India and many other states are a reflection of how they lack an understanding of the national mentality and the historical context of the development of the states. Dismissing the allegations US State Department spoke person Mathew Miller said ” no of course , we don’t involve ourselves in elections anywhere in the world. Those are decisions for the people of India to make “
