Gautam Gambhir is a mentor in KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) in the IPL Season 2024. The Delhi-born mentor frequently faces criticism for not smiling and always carrying a serious demeanor.
He recently appeared on Ravichandran Ashwin’s podcast “The Kutti stories with Ash” where he revealed why he always put’s on the intense look while playing.
Gautam Gambhir told Ashwin “I don’t see I cannot please everyone in this country and I don’t even intend to please everyone. I don’t even want everyone to know me the kind of person I am. For me people who matter to me they should know the kind of person I am, the kind of thoughts I have, what kind of human being whether I am emotional or whether sometimes I am restless, as well, but that’s the kind of person I am. And so, I never ever thought about what people are talking about me. Or that misconception or Perception. It’s up to them. They can talk whatever they want to unless you don’t know me, you should not. If I don’t know someone, I’d never make a perception about someone so they have all the right to do whatever they want”
Gambhir explained that there is nothing wrong with the attitude or demeanor. He also said that fans come to see him win on the field and not to watch him smile.
He added “You know he doesn’t smile, he doesn’t laugh, he is always intense, he is always grumpy, he is always walking on the edge, he always has a game face on. People don’t come to watch me smile, they come to watch me win.”
