Baba Billu Ram was a mahant at Balak Nath Mandir in Tohana, He was convicted of raping his female followers in January 2023, for which he was sentenced to 14 years in jail.
Jalebi Baba was first arrested in 2017 when a woman filed a complaint against him for sexually assaulting her at his residence. However, he secured bail in the case. He was again arrested in 2018 when some of his female followers lodged complaints against him for sexually assaulting them.
The police officials said that they learned about his crimes in July 2018 when a police team led by inspector Pardeep Kumar was patrolling at Tohana’s Chowk. During the investigation, a victim stated that when she went for treatment, Jalebi Baba forced her to have physical relations with him.
Police recovered many sex video CDs along with a recorder. Bimala Devi, the then-woman’s police cell in-charge, confirmed that more than a hundred videos were on Baba’s phone.
In January 2023, The Fatehabad Court found him guilty of raping three of his female followers, including a minor. Baba’s lawyer, Mr. Gajendra Pandey, says that Baba Ram was a diabetic patient who died due to a heart attack. On Tuesday night after complaining of chest pain jail authorities took him to PGIMS, Aghora where the doctors declared him dead.
Baba’s lawyer, Mr. Gajendra Pandey, said they challenged the verdict of The Fatehabad Court before The Punjab and Haryana High Courts, where the appeals is still pending.
