India Meteorological Department issues a heat wave warning in Assam. The State records 40.1 degree Celsius, the highest temperature ever since 1960 on Saturday, may 25.

IMD says that Guwahati – the Capital of Assam records increment in the temperature by 8 degree Celsius this summer. However, the State would get relief as there will be heavy rainfall in Assam due to effects of Cyclone Remal on May 26 and May 27. On May 26, the city experiences the hottest day in the last 64 years. Silchar and Itanagar has also experienced heat wave.
In Assam Dibugarh – 38.8 degree Celsius, Tezpur 39.5 degree Celsius, Dhubri- 38.2 degree Celsius, Jorhat- 37.5 degree Celsius, North Lakhimpur – 39.2 degree Celsius.
IMD ON CYCLONE REMAL :

Even Noth east parts of India may experience heavy rainfall because of the impact of the cyclone. ‘Remal’ has already hit West Bengal. States of Tripura, Assam, Nagaland and Manipur also experiences strong winds and rainfall today. The border districts Kokrajhar, Dhubri and South Salmara Mankachar are on high alert.
A “red alert” has been issued for extreme rainfall in 7 districts and ‘orange alert” in 11 districts, as per the official release.

Cyclone Remal starts its land fall between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh around 9.15 pm on Sunday, May 26. The India Meteorological Department -IMD warns of extreme rainfall in the Coastal areas of West Bengal and in North Odisha for two consecutive days of May 26, May 27. Also, heavy rainfall would hit the parts of Assam and Meghalaya. Heavy to very heavy rain to hit the Northeastern States of Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on Monday and Tuesday, May 27 and May 28 respectively.

IMD ISSUES ORANGE ALERT IN ASSAM
According to IMD “a maximum sustained wind speed of 110-120 kmph, gusting to 135 kmph”. An IMD bulletin said on May 26 said “The outer cloud band lies over coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal. The landfall process will commence in next few hours”.
