Ali Fazal will be seen in a lead role in the Tamil film “Thug Life” directed by filmmaker Mani Ratnam. It is Ali Fazal’s first debut film in the South Indian film industry. The film is co-produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies. The leading actors are Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Abhirami and Nasser. The film’s music is composed by AR Rahman.
The film has Superstar Kamal Haasan in the lead role with Ali Fazal co-starring. A teaser video captioned “A NEW NAME, A NEW HISTORY” is released. Which features Kamal Haasan as Rangaraya Sakthivel Naicker. Interestingly it is the same name of the character in “Nayakan”. It is an unknown fact that is co-related with the two films. The production started in a full robust mode last year in November. The movie is expected to be released this year 2024. Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan are reuniting again nearly after 36 years. Their last movie was “Nayakan”. Talking about the crew members, Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran is there, who has worked with Ratnam in many films like Kannathil, Muthamittal and Aayutha Ezhuthu. Anbariv Masters is the Action Cinematographer, Sharmishta Roy is the production designer, and Ekha Lakhani is the costume designer. The fans are excited about the film as it is an action-packed movie.
Ali Fazal shares that he is thrilled to be part of the movie and hopes to bring ‘significance to this canvas’. He says “The opportunity to collaborate with two stalwarts of Indian cinema has been humbling. I am deeply grateful to Mani sir for entrusting me with this role and am eager to bring it to life on screen”. Ali Fazal also recently joined the film “Lahore 1947” directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. Sunny Deol is the lead actor.
The official trailer of “Thug Life” has not been released yet. The popularity of South Indian films has increased over the period and today it contributes overall to a good collection in the box office. According to the Confederation of Indian Industry, 62% of the box office collection comes from South Indian films in 2021. The box office revenues of the South Indian films stood at 4000 crores in 2021. The movies are doing great and are awaited by the audience.
