85 flights of Air India Express were cancelled as of May 9 due to sick leaves taken by the cabin crew this week. At least 40 flights remain cancelled till May 13. 90 stand cancelled on Wednesday, May 8.
The airline affirms that it has 292 flights operating and the airline would support the passengers by operating its flights on 20 routes. Air India Express have reassured their passengers that if their flights get cancelled or get delayed by 3 hours and beyond, they have the right to claim a full refund or to reschedule their flight. The passengers can check out the “flight status” on Air India’s official website by entering the flight number with the date and time of take-off. However, the website continues to give updates regarding flight timings.
The sick leaves by the crew members trouble both domestic and international flights. It was reported that approximately 300 senior cabin crew unexpectedly took leave and were missing from action. In addition, they were unreachable over the phone. Nearly, the same instance took place when Vistara got merged with Air India. The airline says “Taking appropriate steps against certain individuals whose actions have caused grave inconvenience to guests”. Around 13,000 passengers were affected due to the disruption. The Ministry of Aviation has ordered Air India Express to present a report on the same as this incident goes against the regulations and standards of the airline. Air India fired 25 of its crew members and has ordered the remaining crew to arrive by Thursday at 4 pm or face termination.
